Layaway
Start your order with a down payment and pay off the rest over time. Your order ships as soon as it's paid off.
How layaway works
Layaway lets you reserve an order now and pay for it over time. Your order ships once it is paid in full.
Layaway is available on orders of $200.00 or more, NFA items included. You need a Shooting Surplus account to use it, and you can have up to 3 active layaways at a time.
Your layaway total is the total shown at checkout.
What you pay at checkout
At checkout you pay a down payment of 25% of your order total (items, shipping and tax, after discounts), plus a $30.00 layaway fee. Both are charged together as one card payment.
The down payment and the layaway fee are non-refundable, except when we cancel your layaway (see "If we cancel your layaway"). The layaway fee is not taxed.
Store credit lowers your layaway total. Your 25% down payment is figured after the store credit is applied.
If your layaway is canceled for any reason, the store credit you used goes back to your account as store credit. When you cancel, or the balance isn't paid, we keep only the down payment and the layaway fee.
Paying your balance
Your balance is due in full 60 days after checkout. The due date is shown at checkout, in your confirmation email and in My Account.
Pay any amount, any time, as long as each payment is at least $25.00 (or your remaining balance, if that is less). A payment can't be more than your balance. Paying early is welcome and there is no penalty.
Pay from My Account, or from the payment link in any reminder. You don't need to sign in to pay with a link. Payments after checkout are by card.
Automatic payments
When automatic payments are offered at checkout, they are selected for you. The balance left after your down payment is split into four equal payments, charged every 2 weeks (14, 28, 42 and 56 days after checkout), so it is paid off before the due date. If the balance doesn't split evenly, the last payment is a few cents more. Checkout shows the exact dates and amounts before you place your order.
The payments are charged to the card you pay with at checkout, and that card is saved to your account for them. If you would rather pay on your own, choose "I'll pay on my own" at checkout. You then pay any amount, any time, and we email you reminders.
You can change, pause or stop automatic payments any time in My Account. You can also set them up later on a saved card: weekly, every 2 weeks, monthly, or on dates you choose. The schedule has to pay off your balance by the due date.
We never charge more than your remaining balance. If you pay extra on your own, the later automatic payments get smaller or are skipped.
Before each automatic payment we email you its date and amount, 2 days ahead. A payment you schedule for less than 2 days away is listed in the confirmation email we send when you save the schedule.
If a payment doesn't go through, we let you know. Usually we tell you the date we will try it once more, and if it fails again, automatic payments pause and your regular reminders continue.
But if your bank tells us the card can't be charged at all (for example, it has expired, is closed or was reported lost), we don't try it again. Automatic payments pause, we email you, and your regular reminders continue. If your saved card will expire before your next automatic payment, we pause automatic payments and email you before that payment's date, so you can set them up again with another card.
If we can't make an automatic payment within a few days of its date (for example, because of a problem on our side), we don't charge it late. Automatic payments pause, we email you, and you pay that amount on your own. Once it is paid, you can turn automatic payments back on in My Account.
If we can't set up the automatic payments you chose at checkout (for example, because your card can't be saved), your layaway goes ahead as usual. We email you, and you pay on your own until you set up automatic payments in My Account.
Reminders
We email you every 14 days with your balance, due date and a payment link, then again 2 days before the due date and on the due date.
While your automatic payments are on track to pay off the balance by the due date, you get the email before each automatic payment instead of these reminders.
No changes after checkout
Products, quantities and options can't be changed once your layaway starts.
If your FFL dealer has to change (for example, the dealer closes), contact us and we will update it for you.
If you miss the due date
If your balance isn't paid by the due date, you get a 10-day grace period. We email you each day of the grace period.
If the balance still isn't paid when the grace period ends, your layaway is canceled automatically the next day. You get back everything you paid except the down payment and the layaway fee. Any store credit you used goes back to your account as store credit.
If you cancel
You can cancel your layaway from My Account any time before it is paid off. We refund everything you paid except the down payment and the layaway fee, and any store credit you used goes back to your account as store credit. You see the exact refund before you confirm.
Example: on a $1,000.00 order you pay $280.00 at checkout (a $250.00 down payment plus the $30.00 fee). If you later pay $400.00 and then cancel, we refund $400.00.
Example with store credit: on the same order with $100.00 of store credit, your layaway total is $900.00 and you pay $255.00 at checkout (a $225.00 down payment plus the $30.00 fee). If you later pay $300.00 and then cancel, we refund $300.00 to your card and the $100.00 of store credit goes back to your account.
If we cancel your layaway
If we have to cancel your layaway, for example because the item can't be sourced anywhere or the order doesn't pass our fraud or compliance review, we refund everything you paid, including the down payment and the layaway fee, and any store credit you used goes back to your account.
Refunds
Refunds go back to the card or cards you paid with, most recent payment first. A payment made in our store by cash, check or card terminal is refunded the same way it was made.
Store credit you used goes back to your account as store credit whenever a layaway is canceled, whoever cancels it. It is not refunded to a card.
When your order ships
Your order ships after it is paid in full, to the address or FFL dealer you chose at checkout. Firearms ship to your FFL dealer, who completes the transfer. NFA items ship after payoff to your dealer, and the usual NFA paperwork and ATF wait times apply.
If part of your balance was paid with a different card than the one you used at checkout, we may hold shipping for a security check first.
To make sure your item doesn't sell out while you pay, we may buy it early and hold it for you at our warehouse. That doesn't change anything you pay. If an item becomes unavailable everywhere, we'll let you know, and if we can't get it we cancel the layaway and refund everything you paid.
Fraud screening
Layaway orders go through the same fraud screening as every order. While an order is under review, payments on it are paused and we will email you.
Disputes and chargebacks
The 25% down payment and the $30.00 layaway fee are non-refundable (unless we cancel your layaway), and you agree not to dispute them with your bank or card issuer.
If you have a problem with any layaway charge, you agree to email us at info@shootingsurplus.com first, so we can try to fix it, before you dispute the charge with your bank or card issuer.
Disputing a charge that these terms allow is a breach of this agreement.
If you dispute a layaway charge, we will share this agreement, the record of when you accepted it, and our records of your layaway (its payments and the emails we sent you) with your card issuer and our payment processors.
If a dispute is decided in our favor, you owe a $30.00 dispute fee. We collect it by billing you, or by taking it out of any refund we owe you on this layaway. We never charge it to your card automatically.
While a dispute is open, your layaway is on hold: we don't take payments on it and we don't ship it. Any payment toward your layaway total that your card issuer takes back from us no longer counts, so your balance goes up by that amount. If the dispute is decided in our favor, it counts again.
